Season Jars (formerly the Food Preservation Project) is a student-led education initiative and a CFC working group at Concordia University. The project uses food as a platform for community building, food security, inter-generational and intercultural learning. Through collective cooking, Season Jars is contributing to building a culture of sustainability, collaboration, local self-sufficiency and resilience. They offer a series of workshops where participants transform local, organic and seasonal produce into delicious recipes that they get to take home. Each workshop covers the theory and practice of a specific preservation method (fermentation, canning, drying, salting, sugaring, pickling, etc.) and the recipes are inspired by the seasons. Most workshops currently take place at the Concordia’s Multi-faith and Spirituality Centre Kitchen. Occasionally, they conduct workshops in community cafes and in the NDG area in proximity to the Loyola campus.
